Moreton Bay Regional Prostate Cancer Support Group (MBRPCSG)
Corona Virus shut us down for a while. But after six months, were back: bigger, better, stronger.
Moreton Bay Regional Prostate Cancer Support Group (MBRPCSG) executive spent that time reviewing
and planning change with some great outcomes:
- New Covid-compliant Meeting Location – 1st Floor, YMCA Building Linear Drive, Mango Hill.
- Expanded to include North Brisbane suburbs next to our established MBRC service area.
- Enhanced engagement and networking with Prostate Cancer hospitals and clinical services.
- Grown social activities and support for all members and guests.
- Extended executive to develop and provide better and broader community support.
- High value monthly meetings – informative, formative and topical with great guest speakers.
- Raise men’s awareness of Prostate Cancer via active digital and print media.
In spite of the restrictions, we’ve continued to receive enquiries from men recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and provide them with the support they really need. Cancer takes no holiday, nor do we!
Our first meeting in our new location on Tuesday 13th was a top ‘reunion’. A brand new building centrally located for our existing MBRC area and our new North Brisbane area. The atmosphere of the occasion was electric. So good to have us all back together in a festival mood sharing our group camaraderie.
Our first guest speaker, Dr Matt Roberts [1] , a leading Urologist and head of Immunotherapy Research at RBWH opened our minds to the advanced cancer research into nuclear medicine and immunotherapy happening right here in Brisbane. A WoW presentation with a great Q & A finish. See attached photos!
Our first ‘ New Way’, Bunnings BBQ fund raiser, complete with new ‘Tap-n-Go’ card facilities was another major success story. The Community support was fantastic and don’t they love the Bunnings BBQ.
One of our pandemic-deferred promotions was the Redcliffe hospital Urology Fun Run. But, that’s been rescheduled for 21st November. In support of local cancer care, it will be a great Peninsula Event. Be there!
Men’s health matters! Did you know more than 3,000 Australian men die of prostate cancer every year? An annual health check with a simple blood test to screen for prostate cancer could reduce that number dramatically.
